Merry Christmas

So this is Christmas (and has been and will be Hanukkah until the 28th.)

Multi-coloured, pulsing lights. Brief days. Starry nights. Colour-coded wrapping paper (Green for Sister, Gold for Mother, Red for Pops.) Radio Times. Roasted things. Rum.

Christmas has so many different meanings now: it’s a commercial holiday, it’s about self-indulgence, it’s about family, it’s about helping other people, it’s about spirit, it’s about gratitude, it’s (supposed to be) about Jesus Christ’s birth.

There is a buffet of meaning for all to choose from. I personally see it as a way of tuning out from the noise of the working world. Like going on holiday. The rug in front of the fire is my beach. The TV, my view of the sea (ahem…..) Analogy aborted.

I’d just like to wish you all a great Christmas and whatever it means to you (and I pray that it is a positive thing) I hope it lives up to your expectations and you can make yourself and the people around you happy.

Here are a few of my favourite songs to get you in the mood:

“Christmas All Over Again” by Tom Petty

“Happy Xmas (War is Over)” by John Lennon

“It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” written by Meredith Wilson, sang by Bing Crosby.

“O Holy Night” composed by Adolphe Adam

I personally think the Tom Petty track is fantastic and severely underplayed.

Have a great one. Love to you all,

A
